Chlorofluorocarbons:
(Also called greenhouse gases or CFC's.) A group of gaseous compounds that contain carbon, chlorine, fluorine, and sometimes hydrogen and are used as refrigerants, cleaning solvents, and aerosol propellants and in the manufacture of plastic foams. They are suspected of being a major cause of stratospheric ozone depletion as well as of absorbing longwave electromagnetic radiation.
