Radionuclide retardation:

The process or processes that cause the time required for a given radionuclide to move between two locations to be greater than the ground water travel time, because of physical and chemical interactions between the radionuclide and the geohydrologic unit through which the radionuclide travels (10 CFR Part 960.2).
