The energy imparted to a unit mass of matter by ionizing radiation. The unit of absorbed dose is the rad or gray. One rad equals 100 ergs per gram. The amount of a substance absorbed into the body, usually per unit of time. The most common unit of dose is mg per kg body weight per day (mg/kg-day).
