Eutrophication:

The process by which a body of water acquires a high concentration of nutrients, especially phosphates and nitrates, which typically promote excessive growths of algae. As the algae die and decompose, the amount of available oxygen in the water is depleted, in turn causing the death of other organisms, such as fishes. Normally, eutrophication is a natural, slowaging process for a body of water, but human activity can greatly speed up the process.
